With their revamped workout schedule, the boys have upped their game from last year’s third place in league.
“I think we can pull it off this year,” senior Brenen Polenski said. “We have made a complete 180 from last year.”
The boys lost five seniors this year, but they are doing a great job of filling in the cracks of last year’s seniors, according to Coach Rocky Hewitt. “We are doing great this season , but we still have work to do if we want to win league,” Hewitt said.
After beating Trabuco, 36-34, the boys are excited for the rest of the season, but they wouldn’t be a team with out their Coach “Rocky.”
“Rocky’s a great coach,” Polenski said. “He understands what were going through. He motivates us, but puts us in line when we need it.”
If they win league this year, it will be their first league championship in 12 years.
“I believe in every single one of you,” Hewitt said at a pep talk before practice. “Don’t you want to see that CIF banner up in the gym?”
Although this team is different from last year, they all believe that they can make it to CIF. “Everybody is believing in themselves and in their teammates,” Hewitt said.
Even with wrestler Junior Daniel Sprat out with a broken elbow, they are still pushing through.
“Danny is very valuable to this team, so we just have to pickup and move forward,” Hewitt said.
Sprat went in for surgery on Jan. 14, but will be out the rest of the season.
“I am very proud of this team and that they have really come together and that if they really believe in themselves they can be league champions,” Hewitt said.
