The game showcased the differences in the two classes and their respective approaches from the very start.  Even before the game began, the teams demonstrated their opposing styles.  The juniors maintained their game faces and warmed up seriously to try and keep focus, while their senior opponents tried to stay relaxed by talking and using a flashy-entrance led by members of the ET band.

The juniors’ focus paid off on their first possession as they drove over thirty yards to get within scoring range in just four plays.  The seniors refused to take this lying down and fired right back as their defense pushed the juniors back nearly twenty yards, forcing them to punt the ball.

After the very volatile first possession, both team’s offenses stalled as their defenses took control.

“I think we were a little nervous,” junior coach Michael Berardino said. “We just had to settle down and play our game,”

At halftime both teams buckled down and pumped themselves up for the remaining two quarters, despite the interference of a flamboyant fan streaking across the field in nothing but a Speedo.

The opening plays of the second half mirrored the initial drive in the first half.  The juniors gave the senior defense serious problems with their running-quarterback and sweep plays.  They drove all the way to the two yard line with hardly any resistance.  However, the seniors seemed to perform best under pressure and senior Hayley Morris intercepted the ball in the end zone and returned it for over 50 yards to completely halt the juniors’ momentum.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Morris said. “I’m just out there trying my best,”

Following the eventful drive, both teams again struggled to gain any yards and they became frustrated.   Shoving and pushing escalated and the game became a little rough, especially centered around the girls playing on the offensive and defensive lines. Players started getting agitated at not being able to make plays and started getting too rough. After both teams recieved a warning from the coaches and the referee, senior Morris and junior Lauren Chamberlain were ejected for their unsportsman-like conduct.  The rest of the two teams continued the scoreless game into their first overtime period.

In the first overtime, both teams got a chance to score in four plays from the ten yard line.  The juniors started with the ball, and attacked with a regrouped and determined running game.  In two runs that included more than a little bumping, junior Megan Daniels managed to score the first points of the game on a quarterback keeper.

But the senior offense came back with a point to prove.  Having made little impact offensively, the senior girls seemed to be at a disadvantage in this overtime layout and they were out to dispel these thoughts.  However, the first three plays only seemed to prove the strength of the junior defense, as Daniels made a tackle to force the seniors to a fourth and 15.

On their final chance to score, the seniors came through with another high-pressured performance as they unleashed a long pass into a crowded corner of the end zone tying the score at 7-7.

The game then progressed into double overtime, but this time the seniors started off with the ball.  Despite their best efforts, they were unable to prevail against the speedy junior defense, and ended up giving the ball away.  The juniors then took their turn, and once again, Daniels took the reins, rushing in for her second touchdown of the game as the juniors erupted into cheers of celebration.
