After impressing scouts at the Olympic Development Program (ODP) tournament, senior Nick Rascon, junior Russell Renteria, and sophomores Garrett Danner and James Rude have been selected to possibly play on the Olympic Development Team later this year.

The top players in the area were invited to try-out for the tournament. The scouts picked the players they thought were most prepared to play at that level.
The Olympic Development Team program is for players who have possible potential to play for the Olympic Team later in their careers.
“It feels great to be chosen,” Rude said. “We’ve trained really hard.”
Rascon, Renteria, Danner and Rude represented the Southern Pacific Zone team in this tournament, and after the tournament were approached about attending a camp.
The training camp will be held this June at Los Alamitos Naval Base. At the camp the program will further narrow down the amount of players to their final rosters.
If any of the boys are selected, they will get the opportunity to train in Europe, and to represent their country at the the Pan America Water Polo Games in 2011.
Along with playing for the El Toro Water Polo Team, which won another CIF championship this year, these players also play for the SET club Water Polo team.
The boys are very excited to get the chance to represent their school and their country if they make the team.

“It’s very exciting,” Renteria said. “It feels really good.”
