After numerous head-shots, thrilling dodging, 70 matches played and even a suspension, another dodgeball tournament has come and gone. And though only team “Toy Boat” will be able to hoist the championship trophy over their heads, we at The Bulletin thought that there were a lot of other teams and individuals that deserved recognition as well.

Best Team

This award obviously has to go to the tournament champs, “Toy Boat Toy Boat Toy Boat”. This team was an all junior squad, consisting of Brock Becker, Michael Beradino, Colin Zavrsnick, Katie Purcell, Alissa Kasper, and Emily Peterson. Despite losing the first game in the best-two-out-of-three championship set up, they rallied back and managed to defeat “Los Chupacabras” in three games. This team was a well balanced squad, with players that stepped up at different times throughout the tournament.

Best Players

Though there were a lot of intimidating players this year, here are the players we would least want to face at the end of a match.

  1. Senior Hasan Muhammad. This super senior is terrifying to say the least. Built tall, strong, and athletic, he throws the ball with a deadly combo of speed and accuracy. Both players and spectators need to be paying attention when he has the ball or else they might end up with a nasty welt in the face.
  2. Sophomore Jordan Faison. This power-thrower led his team all the way into the semi finals. Though not being the best dodger, Faison definitely makes up for it with his big throwing arm. With a very powerful windup, Faison throws at frightening speeds.
  3. Junior Brock Becker. Though not the biggest player on the court, Becker is a very precise thrower. He has a knack for hitting the other teams best player. He seemingly carried the champs team “Toy Boat” throughout the final few rounds, getting them a big out when needed. Along with being a precise thrower, Becker is a very agile dodger and very hard to hit.

Best Team Name.

This year there was a whole crop of amusing names. “Derek Zoolander Center For Children Who Can’t Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too” (AKA Booty Sweat) wasn’t the only name that was too long to read on The Daily, as ” Toyboat Toyboat Toyboat” was cut down from its original version of ten “Toyboats”. Even with all the creative names this year, this award has to go to “The Interracial Facials”. They gained attention with their innuendo and clever combination of their ethnicities (the team carries players of all different races) and skills (facials being a dodgeball term for head shot) in their team name.

Best Team Uniform

What we were looking for here was creativity and originality. Therefore teams whose uniforms consisted of t-shirts, short-shorts and high socks (most likely purchased from T-shirts plus) were almost automatically disqualified for this award. This award goes to “Gods of Cod” for their outrageous camoflauged get-up. Who could forget those hilarious Xbox 360 headsets? The camo tank tops and headbands, combined with the headsets, looked like something out of “Call of Duty”.

Biggest Upset

The biggest shocker was team “Who” beating the returning champions, “The Toros,” in the first round. “The Toros” were poised for another deep run into the tournament and even had a video air on the Bulls-Eye on the day of the match. I guess some things aren’t meant to be.
